Raffael Held

Raffael Held is the Project Director at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, where they lead the Low Carbon Sea Transport initiative in the Marshall Islands. With nearly three years in this role, Raffael has driven efforts to decarbonize shipping by blending traditional maritime knowledge with modern hybrid technology while establishing training programs to build local capacity. They previously worked as a Technical Advisor and Engineer, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable maritime solutions and conducting feasibility studies for low-carbon transport. Raffael holds a degree in Marine Operational Engineering from Hochschule Flensburg, where they studied from 2011 to 2018.
