Robert Bates

Robert Bates is an accomplished chemist and drug discovery scientist currently serving as the Director and Head of the Tuberculosis Portfolio at GSK, a role they have held since 2019. Previously, Robert spent years at GSK’s Tuberculosis Unit, beginning in 2011 as a post-doctoral medicinal chemist and progressing to senior leadership positions. With extensive experience in drug discovery and early development, Robert leads a team of around 25 scientists and collaborates with external partners such as the TB Alliance and the TB Drug Accelerator. They hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Scripps Research Institute and a B.S. in Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
