John Ward

John Ward has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. John began their career as a Teaching Assistant for Unix classes at UC Berkeley Extension from 2001 to 2002. John then worked as a Web Developer for the Department of Architecture on a contract basis at UC Berkeley from May to August 1999. From August 1999 to May 2006, John worked as a Programmer/Analyst II at the Institute of Human Development at UC Berkeley. During this time, they also served as a Graduate Student/Researcher from June 2006 to May 2008.

In 2008, John joined OpenContext.org as a Software Engineer before transitioning to Recommind is now OpenText as a Senior Professional Services Engineer specializing in Enterprise Search from November 2008 to February 2014. John then returned to OpenContext.org as a Software Engineer from May to November 2008.

In 2014, John joined Beyond as a Backend Python Engineer from August 2014 to September 2016. John then joined OpenContext.org again in February 2014 but this time as a Software Engineer. Here, they played a key role in migrating OpenContext from PHP to Django framework and developing its Apache Solr-based indexing and search components.

Most recently, John worked at GLIDR from January 2017, initially as a Senior Software Engineer (Backend), and later as the Lead Software Engineer (Backend) from April 2018 onwards. John'sresponsibilities involved collaborating with product managers, designers, developers, and the infrastructure team to develop features for Glidr.io. Throughout their work experience, John utilized various technical skills including Python, Django, PostgreSQL, Apache Solr, and Linux.

John Ward attended the UC Berkeley School of Information from 2006 to 2008, where they obtained a Master of Information Management and Systems degree. Prior to that, they completed their undergraduate studies at Connecticut College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Additionally, they attended Germantown Friends School, but no specific degree or field of study information is provided for this educational institution.
