Global Studies University (GSU), based in Sharjah and established in 2023, is a postgraduate university accredited by the UAE’s Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), dedicated to the humanities and social sciences. The Africa Institute, GSU’s first and flagship institute, traces its roots to the first Symposium on African and Arab Relations held in Sharjah in December 1976 under the patronage of His Highness Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi. Formally established in 2018, the Institute provides research, documentation, and postgraduate education in African and African diaspora studies. GSU is now expanding to include additional interdisciplinary institutes, including the upcoming Asia Institute and future centers across the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, creating a global network for research and postgraduate training.
