Cal Barton has a diverse work experience in the media industry. Cal started their career as a Television Journalist at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in 1982, where they worked as an on-air reporter and gained experience in reporting, assignment desk work, and writing.
In 1988, Cal joined Worldwide Television News in London as a Television Journalist. During their time there, they directed coverage of breaking stories in Europe and Africa and worked on various desks at the headquarters. Cal later became the Asia Bureau Chief, taking on responsibilities such as editorial management and budget management for the region.
In 1999, Cal co-founded Procam Television, a broadcast crew and equipment hire company, and served as the Managing Director. Under their leadership, the company grew from one to 50 employees. In 2008, they stepped down as Managing Director to run Atlas Television FZ LLC in Dubai. Cal was responsible for the overall management of the company, including financial, strategic, operations, marketing, and personnel management. Cal also served as the Director of multi-camera jobs.
From 2008 to 2020, Cal was self-employed as a Director, managing their own business. During this time, they also took on the role of Finance Director at Procam Television, responsible for the financial management of the company and expanding its operations base into Manchester. Cal continued in this role until a Management Buy-out of their shares was negotiated in 2013.
In 2020, Cal became the President of Global Study, and later the Managing Director of Global Study Technology Limited. Cal's experience spans across various areas of media management, including journalism, production, operations, finance, and strategic planning.
Cal Barton attended Simon Fraser University from 1976 to 1979, where they completed two years towards a four-year honors degree in Biochemistry. Following this, they enrolled at the British Columbia Institute of Technology from 1980 to 1982, where they obtained a Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, specializing in Broadcast Journalism.
