Neil Johnson has worked in the engineering and robotics field since 2005. In 2005, they worked as a Mechanical Intern for Design Jug and a Robotics Research Assistant for Brigham Young University. From 2006 to 2008, they worked as a Research Assistant for the BYU MAGICC Lab, where they added new features to the Kestrel Autopilot and Virtual Cockpit ground station software, simulated UAV flight, and conducted research in helicopter control and computer vision. In 2008, they became an Embedded S/W Engineer Sr for Lockheed Martin Procerus Technologies L.C., working with defense contractors to develop solutions for Unmanned Systems needs. In 2015, they joined Scientific Systems Company as a Senior Research Engineer, responsible for software architecture and implementation of a computer vision system for small UAVs in a cluttered environment. In 2017, they became the Principal of Real Deal Robotics, a firm specializing in robotic software development and testing. From 2019 to 2023, they worked as a Lead Research Engineer and Senior Research Engineer for Scientific Systems Company (SSCI), where they executed several U.S. DoD research and development projects and led proposal efforts for several programs. In 2023, they joined Glydways as a Staff Autonomy Engineer to build autonomous vehicle systems for mass transit.
Neil Johnson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 2006, followed by a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the same university in 2008.
