Johan Muller has had a varied and extensive career in the fields of energy, transport, and law. In 2020, they began working as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for GoAscendal, a company that empowers cities to implement greener, equitable mobility. From 2017 to 2020, they held the position of Chief Commercial Officer at GoMetro, a boutique technology company providing cutting edge solutions to the transport and mobility sectors. In 2017, they had a temporary secondment as Manager Strategy and Business Development at The Greater Tygerberg Partnership. From 2011 to 2017, they were a Programme Manager and Management Consultant at Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting firm. From 2008 to 2011, they were a Consultant at SAHA International, a strategic management consulting firm focusing on energy and transport reform. In 2006, they were a Lawyer at Bellingan Muller Hanekom Attorneys Inc. Finally, from 2001 to 2002, they were a Blue Collar Worker at Tesco PLC, where they learned a great deal about finance, supply chains, logistics, management styles, business processes and optimisation, and non-financial incentives to motivate and drive people.
Johan Muller began their educational journey at Bellville High, where they studied English, Maths, Science, Geography, Computer Science, and Afrikaans from 1996 to 2000. In 2005, they obtained a Certified Estate Agent (CEA) from the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) with a focus on Basic Contract Law Principles. Johan then completed an LLB at Stellenbosch University in 2006. In 2007, they obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Practical Legal Training (PLT) from the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika. In 2009, they obtained a Certificate in Provincial and Local Government Law from the same school. Johan also obtained a Certificate in Business Writing from the University of Cape Town in 2010 and studied Economics at the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika in the same year. In 2017, they completed a Smart Cities Course at The Open University and an Internet of Things (IoT) Course at King's College London. In 2018, they completed an Achieving Sustainable Development Course at Trinity College Dublin. In 2019, they completed an Introduction to GDPR: General Data Protection Regulation at UCL. Finally, in 2021, they completed a Transforming Urban Mobility: Introduction to Transport Planning for Sustainable Cities at UCL, with a focus on Dimensions of sustainable urban mobility, including the Avoid-Shift-Improve (ASI) framework.
