Amira Abbas

Amira Abbas is a highly qualified researcher with a diverse background in physics and actuarial science. Amira began a career at Grindrod as a Graduate Trainee from February 2015 to February 2016 and worked as a Researcher at STANLIB from April 2016 to July 2018. After earning a Bachelor's degree in Business Science (with honours) in Actuarial Science from the University of Cape Town, Amira continued studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, achieving a Master's degree in Physics, cum laude, followed by a PhD in Physics. Amira held positions as a Quantum Research Intern at Google and IBM between 2020 and 2023, and is currently employed as a Quantum Research Scientist at Google as of March 2025. Additionally, Amira serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at both UvA and QuSoft from May 2023 to February 2025.
