Bernard Kress

Bernard Kress is an accomplished expert in optical engineering with extensive experience in augmented reality (AR) and micro-optics technologies. Currently serving as Director of Optical Engineering for AR hardware at Google, Bernard focuses on advancing consumer smart glasses by enhancing visual and social comfort. Prior to this role, Bernard held notable positions at Microsoft as Partner Optical Architect and at Google [X] Labs as Principal Optical Architect. With a strong background in optical systems, Bernard has developed next-generation optical architectures and led teams in various high-tech companies, including DigiLens Inc. and USI Inc. Bernard's academic credentials in photonics include a PhD from UC San Diego and an HDR from Université de Haute-Alsace.
