Dirk Haehnel is a Staff Software Engineer at Google, where they have worked since February 2009 on the Self Driving Car project as a founding team member. Prior to this, Dirk served as an Associate Research Engineer in the Computer Science Department at Stanford University from 2007 to 2009, and as a Staff Engineer at Intel Research in Seattle from 2005 to 2007. Dirk holds a Ph.D. in Robotics and Computer Science from the University of Freiburg, which they completed in 2005, and a Master’s Degree in the same field from the University of Bonn, earned in 2000. Their research has included significant contributions to various mobile robotic projects, including a notable success at the DARPA Urban Challenge.
