Fernando Pereira

Fernando Pereira is a seasoned professional in the field of computer science, currently serving as Vice President at Google DeepMind since June 2023 and holding a long-standing role as Vice President and Engineering Fellow at Google since January 2008. Pereira has extensive expertise in natural language understanding, machine learning, and computational linguistics, having held positions such as Distinguished Research Scientist and Research Director at Google, as well as CIS Department Chair at the University of Pennsylvania from July 2001 to December 2007. Prior experience includes leadership roles at AT&T Labs Research and Bell Laboratories, where research focused on machine learning and language processing, and directorial positions at SRI International, managing research in natural language parsing and understanding. Pereira earned a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from The University of Edinburgh and a Licenciatura in Mathematics from the University of Lisbon.
