Haoyu Chen

Haoyu Chen is a highly experienced software engineer specializing in machine learning and recommendation systems. Currently serving as a Staff Software Engineer at Google since July 2022, Haoyu focuses on the Google Play Store's personalization and recommendation features. From December 2021 to June 2022, Haoyu worked as a Senior Staff Software Engineer at DiDi, leading a 15-member machine learning planner team to enhance motion planning components in self-driving vehicles. Prior experience includes a role at Waymo from August 2019 to December 2021, where responsibilities involved building machine learning models for autonomous driving, and an earlier position at Google from August 2016 to August 2019, contributing to PlayStore recommendation models and counter-abuse technology. Haoyu began professional development as a Research Assistant at UC Berkeley, where involvement included teaching and research in advanced statistical methods. Haoyu holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Arts in Statistics, both obtained from the University of California, Berkeley.
