Jim Pinkerton is a seasoned software and hardware engineer with extensive experience in cloud storage solutions and system architecture. Currently serving as a Principal Software Engineer at Google since April 2020, Jim focuses on driving innovation in cloud-scale blob storage. Prior to this, Jim held the position of Senior Principal Engineer at Amazon Web Services, where significant contributions were made to cloud-scale block storage services, particularly enabling easier migration paths for on-prem services. Jim's earlier experience includes a tenure at Microsoft as a Partner Architect, dedicating efforts to private cloud storage, and a considerable engineering career at SGI, contributing to high-performance computing and network protocols. With foundational roles at Cayman Systems, AI Architects, and Symbolics, Jim's education includes a Master’s degree in Computer Science from The University of New Mexico and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
