John Fonner possesses extensive experience in life sciences computing and high-performance computing (HPC). Fonner worked at the Texas Advanced Computing Center from April 2011 to June 2017, where contributions included training, consulting, and support for life sciences research, as well as the deployment and maintenance of the $6M HPC system "Longhorn." As a Manager, Fonner led initiatives for container adoption and managed multiple NSF, NIH, and DARPA funded projects. Prior to TACC, Fonner served as the Director of Special Projects at the University of Texas at Austin and completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering there. Current employment at Google as a Senior Product Manager in HPC started in July 2025, with earlier experience as a Payload Safety Engineer at GHG Corporation from September 2003 to February 2005. Education includes a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
