Mahdi Karami is a researcher at the University of Waterloo, focusing on large language models, efficient and scalable systems for machine learning, and graph generative models since July 2023. Previously, Mahdi served as an Applied Scientist II at Amazon, specializing in natural language processing, language models, and recommendation systems from September 2022 to July 2023. Following a role as a Senior Research Scientist at Noah's Ark Lab from February 2021 to September 2022, Mahdi also contributed as a guest researcher at the University of Amsterdam from April 2018 to April 2019. In the earlier career phase, Mahdi worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Alberta between January 2010 and December 2013 while pursuing a Ph.D. in Statistical Machine Learning, Computer Science. Degrees include a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, a Master's in Communications and Signal Processing from the University of Tehran, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology.
