Richard McGowen

Richard McGowen is an accomplished engineer with extensive experience in the field of computer engineering. Since August 2025, Richard has held the position of Physical Design Engineer at Google, specializing in Custom Datapath. Prior to this role, Richard worked at Waymo as a Hardware Engineer from January 2021 to August 2025, and spent seven years at D. E. Shaw Research as a Research Engineer, focusing on physical design for a supercomputer aimed at protein folding. Richard's experience at AMD as a Principal Member Technical Staff involved leading RTL design for Floating Point Unit architecture, and Richard provided technical leadership at Intel Corporation as a Senior Staff Engineer in mixed-signal verification. Richard began his career as an intern at Silicon Engineering and has earned multiple degrees in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
