Roger Yu

Roger Yu is an accomplished engineering leader with extensive experience in artificial intelligence and big data processing. Currently serving as Senior Director of Engineering at Google since April 2025, Roger previously held the position of VP of Engineering for Azure AI Core at Microsoft from September 2018 to April 2025, where leadership extended over a global team of more than 100 engineers focused on developing the Azure AI Platform, including Azure OpenAI and Azure Machine Learning. Prior to this role, Roger was a researcher at Microsoft Research Asia, focusing on speech and audio technologies, and a Principal Development Manager in Bing Data Mining, managing a team of over 70 engineers to support big data initiatives. Roger holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronic Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a PhD in Electronic Engineering from Tsinghua University.
