Shumin Zhai is a Principal Scientist and Engineering Director at Google, where they lead the research and production of Gboard, a human-centered AI product used by 1.2 billion daily active users across over 900 languages. Previously, Shumin served as Chief ShapeWriter at ShapeWriter Inc. and as a Research Staff Member at IBM Almaden Research Center, focusing on innovative user interface technologies. They have contributed over 200 publications and hold more than 100 granted US patents, and have been recognized as a Fellow of ACM and a member of the ACM CHI Academy.
