Sun Shou-lin (James) is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in academia and technology. James served as a Research Fellow at the University of Washington from March 2010 to December 2014 and later held adjunct professor roles at both the University of Washington's Electrical & Computer Engineering Department and the School of Public Health between 2018 and 2018. Following that, James joined the University of Chicago as an adjunct professor from May 2022 to April 2023. At Google, starting in 2021, James advanced from Senior Researcher & Team Leader to Senior Principal Data Scientist and eventually to Vice Director at Google X, leading research on auto-tuning for large language models and sparse language models. Prior experience includes a Vice President role at CEAtech from 2006 until its acquisition by Yahoo in 2018, and significant leadership positions at CEAtech US and CEA tech, Inc. James holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Computer Applications from Carnegie Mellon University.
