Gradient Ascent is an AI/ML excellence initiative focused on building deep, engineering-grade AI talent from the ground up.

It is founded and guided by an IIT Madras (Computer Science) alumnus, a MIT TR35 Innovators List awardee, and an AI practitioner with over two decades of hands-on experience across research, startups, and large-scale industry systems. The founder has mentored and consulted for leading AI/ML teams at companies such as Flipkart, Verse Innovations, Amagi Media Labs, Biopeak, and others, and is a pioneer in applying AI/ML to the Indic language space, including creating Quillpad, which transformed Indian language text input for millions of users. He has founded multiple AI/ML-centric startups and currently leads an AI company working at the frontier of neural and symbolic AI.

Gradient Ascent brings this depth of real-world experience into talent development. The focus is on creating true AI/ML engineers who can reason from first principles, design models and systems, and build production-grade AI, not merely operate tools or prompts.

The program follows a full-time, mentor-led residency model with strong emphasis on mathematical foundations, systems thinking, and hands-on work aligned with real AI engineering challenges.
