Director Of Bioinformatics at GRAIL

Eric Scott has a diverse work experience in the field of bioinformatics and related areas. Eric has worked at various companies and institutions, starting with their current role as the Director of Bioinformatics at GRAIL since August 2022. Prior to that, they were an Associate Director and Group Lead, Bioinformatics Scientist at GRAIL from January 2021 to September 2022 and December 2019 to January 2021 respectively. Eric also held the position of Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at GRAIL from November 2017 to December 2019, and a Bioinformatics Scientist II from March 2016 to November 2017.

Before joining GRAIL, Eric worked at the University of California, San Diego as a Postdoctoral Researcher from November 2015 to March 2016. Eric was also a Bioinformatics Graduate Student at the university from September 2010 to November 2015. Eric'sresearch focused on recessive developmental neural disorders and they used exome sequencing and stem cells for their studies.

Eric has also worked as a Course Instructor at Academic Connections, where they taught an introductory course in bioinformatics to high school students. Eric was responsible for teaching various topics including python, virology, oncology, sequencing data analysis, and protein structure.

Prior to their teaching role, Eric worked at Roche Pharmaceuticals as a Bioinformatics Systems Analyst from June 2007 to November 2010. Eric provided support for virology and oncology databases and developed automated analysis tools for NGS sequencing and other data types.

Additionally, Eric gained experience as a Lab Assistant at the Department of Molecular Biology, UCSC, where they contributed to research on nanopore technology and its applications in DNA-protein interactions.

Early in their career, Eric worked as a Research Assistant at the Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics, where they participated in a cancer-imaging project using accelerated protons. Eric also served as a Tutor and Reader at the UCSC Engineering Department, assisting in teaching programming languages to students.

Eric Scott obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioinformatics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Eric further pursued their education at UC San Diego, where they completed their Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from 2010 to 2015.
