Grameen University received formal approval from the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2025. It was founded by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, with the bold vision of catalyzing social transformation through higher education and contributing to the creation of a new civilization grounded in equity and sustainability.
The University aspires to become unique in the world and one of the top private universities in Bangladesh and the region, delivering world-class education while instilling in its students the commitment to serve society and work for the greater good of the world. Drawing on Professor Yunus’ philosophy of the Three Zeros—zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions and his social business theory and actions — Grameen University encourages its students to become active contributors to national development and global progress.
