Emma Manning is a Senior Research Scientist at Grid Dynamics since April 2024, focusing on the safety of AI/NLP features for a major tech company. Previously, Emma worked at Google for two years as a Linguist, enhancing the quality of datasets and evaluation methods for Natural Language Generation and Conversational AI. Emma's experience also includes a role as a Linguistic Annotator at TREC Assessors LLC for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where quality verification of annotations was a key responsibility. As a Project Coordinator for Semantic Annotation at Georgetown University, Emma led a team in annotating semantics in data, while concurrently serving as a Graduate Teaching Associate, adapting courses for online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Emma additionally has experience teaching intensive courses in Linguistics and Computer Science at the Johns Hopkins Center For Talented Youth. Emma holds a PhD in Linguistics from Georgetown University and a BA in Linguistics and Cognitive Science from Scripps College.
