Fatuma Ali

Lead Product Engineer at Grid Singularity

Fatuma Ali has worked in the energy industry since 2013. In that time, they have held various roles in four different companies. Fatuma began their career at Kenya Power as an Electrical Engineer - Protection Engineer, where they oversaw commissioning tests of substations, maintained substations throughout the country, and carried out maintenance on NiCad and PbAc batteries. In 2017, they worked at Olivado as a Masters Student Attachment, where they monitored the production of gas in an Anaerobic digestor and prepared standard operating procedures for the plant. During the same year, they also worked at PI Berlin as a Photovoltaics Systems (Master Thesis) where they visited a PV Power plant to carry out inspection, Power measurements and taking electroluminescence images, studied the degradation of PV modules - LID and PID, and studied IEC procedures for certification of PV Modules. Finally, in 2018, they joined Grid Singularity as a Lead Product Engineer, Stakeholder Lead, Energy Communities, and Energy & Projects Engineer. In this role, they researched potential business models available under local energy markets, created, operated, and tested Grid Singularity use case simulations under different market models, and ran peer to peer energy trading projects for different international clients and partners. Fatuma also created use cases for application in the D3A, a blockchain based market model for transactive electric grid including peer to peer approach.

Fatuma Ali's education history includes a Master of Science in Renewable Energy from Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Nairobi, and a High School/Secondary Diplomas and Certificates from Moi Girls Secondary school Isinya. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in Substation Automation Systems (SAS) from ZIV Aplicaciones y Tecnología, ABB Transformer Protection and Voltage Regulation from ABB, and Graduate Engineer from The Institution of Engineers of Kenya.
