Chris Black

CEO at GridX

Chris Black is the CEO at GridX, a San Francisco-based investment firm at the forefront of building the next generation of sustainable, tech-enabled utility providers. Chris has over 20 years of experience in the technology industry and has held various positions including COO, CTO, and Director of Engineering.

Chris started their career at Requisite Technology where they were responsible for the definition, delivery, and cost management of 11 applications. Chris created the architecture for all applications and implemented processes for quantifying and measuring effectiveness. The new applications Chris created resulted in $10MM in up-sell revenue to existing customers and increased acquisition of new customers.

In 2011, Chris joined Uplight as the COO & CTO where they were responsible for the underlying technology selection and application. Chris implemented the Scrum framework which resulted in significantly improved visibility, reduced timelines, reduced rework, and higher profit margins. Chris also implemented Continuous Integration, Unit testing, automated build process, and continuous operational performance evaluation and improvement. During their time at Uplight, they were also a key member of sales team responsible for closing over $15MM in new domestic and international sales.

Most recently, Chris has been working as the Operating Partner & CTO at Huck Capital. In this role, they are responsible for leading the technical vision and execution of Huck Capital’s portfolio companies. Chris has been instrumental in building the next generation of sustainable, tech-enabled utility providers that are changing the way we think about energy.

Chris Black graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. They also minored in Graphic Design.
