GRIP was founded in 2014 by choreographer and dancer Jan Martens and manager Klaartje Oerlemans.

From 2023 on, GRIP choreographers Femke Gyselinck, Jan Martens, Cherish Menzo, and Steven Michel act together as artistic directors. They do so in close dialogue with Klaartje Oerlemans and Rudi Meulemans, who coordinates and facilitates the dialogue between the four makers in his role of artistic coordinator.

GRIP is a nomadic structure. GRIP does not have a studio of its own, but makes use of the existing infrastructure in the performing arts landscape by forging alliances with theatres, co-producers, production companies and residency venues. The creations always emerge in different spaces and in interaction with the different professional contexts.

GRIP is a non-profit organisation active in several countries. The ‘vereniging zonder winstoogmerk’ is based in Antwerp, the ‘stichting’ in Rotterdam. GRIP receives structural subsidies from the Government of Flanders and has several international co-producers as well as many partners in Europe and North America.
