Sr. Principal Cybersecurity Consultant at GuardSight

Thomas W. has a long history of working in the cybersecurity field. Thomas began their career in 2001 as a Lead Network Engineer for NCI Information Systems, Inc., where they installed and implemented the Action Request System for the Washington DC National Guard. Thomas then moved on to MJM Management, LLC in 2005, where they served as a Sr. Exchange/Antivirus/Lync/Rightfax/Sharepoint Administrator, Problem & Change Coordinator and secured the Exchange and Lync environments for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. In 2014, they became an Information Technology Consultant for Macro Solutions, where they assisted in the migration from Blackberry devices to iPhones and the migration of the Office of Science to Office 365. From 2015 to 2019, they worked as a Cybersecurity Lead/Manager and Exchange Engineer/Project Manager for 22nd Century Technologies Inc., where they managed the contract cybersecurity team in support of the Department of Energy, Office of Science and increased levels of communication and collaboration through the use of tools. In 2019, they began working as a Sr. Principal Cybersecurity Consultant for GuardSight, Inc., providing part-time cybersecurity consulting and performing vulnerability and patch management. Most recently, they have been working as an Operations Security Manager for ASM Research since 2020, managing a high-performing cybersecurity team and assisting in the administration of the Department of Homeland Security Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation initiative. Additionally, they have been an Adjunct Faculty Instructor at Hagerstown Community College since 2016, teaching courses in Cybersecurity disciplines and providing constructive feedback to students.

Thomas W. has a diverse educational background. Thomas began their educational journey in 2000 when they attended the Terabiz Training Academy to obtain their MCSE and MCP+I. In 2001 and 2002, they studied multiple areas of study within Microsoft OS at Learn2 University. From 2007 to 2011, they attended Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute and obtained HAZMAT First Responder, Firefighter 1, EMS First Responder, Pump Operator, and Emergency Vehicle Driver certifications. From 2008 to 2009, they completed a Home Study to obtain their MCTS in WSS 3.0. In 2008 and 2010, they attended Microsoft eLearning to obtain certifications in Microsoft Exchange 2007, 2010, and MOSS 2007. From 2012 to 2014, they attended Hagerstown Community College and obtained an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Cybersecurity. From 2014 to 2016, they attended the University of Maryland Global Campus and obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Cybersecurity. Finally, from 2016 to 2018, they attended the University of Maryland Global Campus and obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Cybersecurity Policy. In addition to their educational history, Thomas W. has obtained two additional certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)² in September 2022 and Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute in March 2022.
