Tamer Refaei

Teaching Faculty

Tamer Refaei is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in computer security and networking. Currently serving as a Program Manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) since April 2024, Tamer has also been part-time faculty at The George Washington University since May 2007, receiving the GWU part-time faculty of the year award in 2013. Tamer's previous roles at MITRE from October 2008 to April 2024 included Head of Research and Development and Senior Principal Scientist, where leadership in developing software-defined networking architectures and overseeing engineering teams was emphasized. Tamer also held positions as Lead Network Engineer and Research Scientist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from September 2006 to October 2008. Tamer's academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech, a Master’s Degree in Computer Science from The George Washington University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.
