Hakawati is a nonprofit cultural organization stewarding a historic lineage of Karagöz shadow puppetry and translating its wisdom into contemporary artistic, educational, and public practice.

Anchored in a rare collection of 180 handmade puppets from Aleppo, Hakawati preserves a non-dual storytelling tradition rooted in paradox, humor, and moral complexity. Our work includes archival research, performance, curriculum design, and convenings that explore how story can expand perception and interrupt polarized narratives.

Hakawati serves artists, facilitators, and civic leaders seeking narrative tools that foster presence, ethical imagination, and deeper ways of seeing.
