Prior to their current roles, Samuel worked at Lightup Data as an Engineer/Data Scientist from 2019 to 2020. At Lightup Data, they played a key role as the first non-founder employee, designing and implementing core algorithms for their AI and signal processing product.
Before that, Samuel was an Algorithm Engineer/Early Employee at Totemic from 2018 to 2019. At Totemic, they designed novel AI algorithms for a wearable-free sensor that monitored daily activities and detected falls in older adults. Samuel also took on various other responsibilities, including firmware engineering, RF testing, user research, recruiting, and ordering groceries.
In 2018, Samuel was a Biodesign Summer Fellow at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign. As part of a highly interdisciplinary team, they worked on solving real-world medical problems related to hearing loss. Their team was recognized as one of the best in the class and received funding to further develop their idea into a prototype.
In 2017, Samuel gained experience as a Wireless Systems Engineering Intern at Uhana, where they used AI techniques to improve video-conferencing over cellular networks. This work caught the attention of a top wireless carrier's CTO. Uhana was later acquired by VMware in July 2019.

Samuel Joseph has a diverse education history in the field of Electrical Engineering. Samuel attended the prestigious Stanford University, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree and Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering. Prior to their time at Stanford, they completed their Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) with a minor in Management at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Samuel Joseph also completed their high school education at Kendriya Vidyalaya.
