Javier Luraschi has had a long and successful career in the tech industry. In 2005, they began their career as an Intern at SAP, then moved up to become a Presales Engineer and Business Development Manager. In 2007, they joined Microsoft as a Software Engineer II in the Office Access Services team, where they created an API to provision high availability with disaster recovery databases for Office365. Javier then moved up to a Senior Software Engineer in Microsoft Research, where they built a deep learning mobile app based on project Adam. Javier also contributed to rearchitecting Microsoft Academic Search, scaling the machine learning algorithm into a 500+ machines cluster, and creating a geospatial web frontend in AngularJS. In 2016, they joined RStudio PBC as a Software Engineer, where they co-authored torch, a native port of PyToch in R, built the C interface to libtorch, and expanded pins to support R, Python and JavaScript through a common JavaScript codebase. Javier also wrote with O'Reilly "Mastering Spark with R", released sparklyr 1.0 with support for Apache Arrow, and released a new pins package. In 2019, they joined The Linux Foundation as an Open Source Committer. Most recently, in 2021, they became the Founder & CEO of Hal9, and in 2022, they became an Entrepreneur In Residence at the Allen Institute for AI (AI2).

Javier Luraschi began their educational journey in 2001 when they enrolled in Universidad Panamericana to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, which they completed in 2005. Javier then attended the same university from 2005 to 2006 to study Distributed Systems, though they did not obtain a degree. Lastly, they attended Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México from 2002 to 2004, where they received a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics.
