Doug Piper has a diverse work experience in the beer industry. Doug has been a Great American Beer Fest Judge and a member of the Governing Committee at the Brewers Association since 2022. In 2023, they became a Beer Judge at the African Beer Cup. Doug also served as an International Beer Judge at the Concurso Brasileiro de Cervejas in 2022 and at the Brussels Beer Challenge in 2021. Prior to that, Doug held the role of Founder and Host at Gourmet Brewing since 2018. Doug has also been involved in the Halftime Institute since 2015, where they served as the Founder and Host of Halftime Livestreams and Podcasts and worked in various roles related to the HalfTime Carolinas and HalfTime Carolina's RoundTable. Additionally, Doug was the Founder and Host of The Beer Connoisseur Live Stream and Podcast at The Beer Connoisseur since 2020. Doug holds certifications as a Certified Cicerone from the Cicerone Certification Program since 2017 and as a Certified Beer Judge from the Beer Judge Certification Program since 2015.

Doug Piper has a diverse education history. In 1976, they attended Erskine College, where they studied physics. Doug later transferred to Clemson University in 1979 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus on High-Speed Transmission Lines in 1981.

In recent years, Doug has pursued education in the beer industry. In 2018, they obtained a Certified Cicerone qualification from the Cicerone® Certification Program. Subsequently, in 2019, they became a BJCP Certified Mead Judge through the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Doug further expanded their expertise in the beer field by becoming a Certified Beer Judge in 2017 and a Certified Beer Server in the same year, both certifications achieved through the Cicerone® Certification Program. In 2021, Doug obtained additional certifications, including being an International Beer Judge from the Brussels Beer Challenge and being a Beer Judge for the Great American Beer Festival, which is the world's largest beer competition.

Apart from their beer-related education, Doug also pursued other fields of study. In 2015, they participated in the Roundtable program at the Halftime Institute, where they focused on transitioning from success to significance. In 2020, they engaged with the Dottotech Greywave Founder program, which aimed to help individuals create successful online businesses. Furthermore, in 2022, Doug embarked on the Dottotech Greywave MasterMind program to further enhance their knowledge and skills in the online business sector.
