Stephen Matts

Stephen Matts has extensive work experience in the maritime and defense industries. Stephen is currently serving as the President of Ocean Innovations Group INC since October 2022. Before that, they held the position of Vice-President of Maintenance and Government Services at HALO Maritime Defense Systems from December 2019. Prior to that, they worked as a Project Manager at the same company from January 2015 to December 2019.

Stephen also has experience in the military sector. Stephen served as the Commanding Officer NROTC Unit at Duke University, NC State University, and UNC (Chapel Hill) from an unknown start date to 2010. Additionally, they worked as the Commander at US Naval Activities United Kingdom from 2003 to 2006.

Furthermore, Stephen has a background in national security and energy. Stephen held the position of Chief of Staff / Executive Staff Director at the Department of Energy / National Nuclear Security Administration from 2000 to 2003. In this role, they were responsible for policy setting, coordination, and organizational realignment in areas such as international nuclear safety and non-proliferation. Stephen also served as a spokesperson for the Department of Energy at the National Security Council Counter-Terrorism Steering Group and the liaison to the Homeland Security Council.

Before joining the Department of Energy, Stephen served in the US Navy as the Commanding Officer of USS West Virginia (SSBN 736), a nuclear-powered submarine carrying nuclear ballistic missiles. Stephen held this position from 1998 to 2000, where they were responsible for the leadership, training, and safety of the ship and its crew.
