John Calcote

John Calcote has a diverse work experience spanning several companies. John started their career as a Technical Support Engineer at Novell in 1991 before moving on to become a Trainer and Course Developer. John then worked as a Software Engineer, where they played an instrumental role in porting the NetWare directory software base to Windows and Unix systems. At Novell, they also served as a Senior Engineer, Architect, and Software Engineer. John designed and managed open-source identity services components and developed core services and platform abstractions for eDirectory and other directory-based software products.

John later joined the LDS Church as a Senior Software Engineer, where they worked on the nagios network monitoring project. Following this, they returned to Novell as a Senior Software Engineer/Architect, focusing on designing and developing service provider-specific SAML2 federation agreement management software.

John then worked at SanDisk, where they served as an Architect/Senior Technical Lead, Software Engineering Manager II, and Senior Software Engineer/Team Lead. In these roles, they managed teams of developers and was involved in creating a cross-organizational enterprise management platform, designing authentication and authorization frameworks, and working on management software infrastructure for solid-state storage devices.

John's next position was at Primary Data Inc, where they worked as a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in storage management software for network-attached storage devices using NFS and iSCSI.

Currently, John is employed at Hammerspace as the Founding Software Architect, where they are responsible for architectural and software engineering tasks utilizing a range of programming languages and technologies. John is also engaged in full-stack development and database management.

John Calcote attended Brigham Young University from 1986 to 1991, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
