Steven Cunningham

Steven Cunningham is an accomplished music educator serving as the Assistant Professor of Music Education at Hampton University since July 2023. In this role, Cunningham teaches a diverse range of courses, including Applied Trumpet, Music Theory, and Jazz Improvisation. Previously, as the Director of Bands for Dinwiddie County Public Schools, Cunningham directed various ensembles and taught multiple band classes. Prior experience includes positions at Grambling State University as an Assistant Professor and Assistant Band Director, as well as adjunct roles at Virginia Commonwealth University and as a Graduate Assistant at the University of Maryland. Cunningham holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and a Master's degree in Music Performance from the University of Maryland, as well as a Bachelor of Music from Virginia Commonwealth University.
