Hands-On Institute is a Nepal-based faculty-led/non-faculty-led study abroad programs and community engaged learning organization with a mission to impact communities in Nepal. Our services encompass all phases of educational travel, including curriculum design, itineraries, budgeting, evaluation, follow-up, and sustainability. We place a strong emphasis on the impact of our programs, both on the communities we engage with and the learners we serve. By placing learners in cautiously selected communities and natural environmental assets, our programs inspire them to act towards a thriving, just and sustainable world. Our partner communities through “community advisers” helps in planning, reviewing, preparation and hosting of activities undertaken by us. Do No Harm is the core of our work.

Over the past decade, Hands-On Institute has successfully implemented various projects, collaborating with organizations and academic institutions worldwide. Our recent experience of doing similar work is with University of California, Davis (UC Davis). Hands-On Institute has working with UC Davis since 2016 as an in-country local coordinator and collaborating instructor for the Nepal Program of the University of California, Davis. This partnership has involved students from Nepal and UC Davis, representing various universities and academic disciplines. We have successfully completed three cohort- one in 2017 and one in 2019 and one in December 2023. Our recent collaboration with the University of California, Davis has been recognized with the 2023-24 Excellence in Teaching for Global Learning Award (https://globalaffairs.ucdavis.edu/teaching-global-learning-awards/2023-24-honorees)

Through these partnerships, we have designed and executed impactful learning programs, fostering meaningful connections between learners, activists, and local communities.
