Holger Ballweg

Holger Ballweg has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Holger is currently working at Haystack as a Senior Software Engineer, a position they have held since January 2022. Prior to this, they were a Software Engineer at Haystack from April 2020.

In addition to their work in the software industry, Holger has also been self-employed as a Musician/Workshop leader since November 2009. During this time, they have performed live coding performances with various artists, conducted introductory workshops on live coding and network music, and co-designed and programmed an audio-visual installation.

Before their self-employment, Holger worked as a Software Developer at MOSO Corporation from November 2017 to March 2020. Their responsibilities included implementing web user interfaces, tweaking C# middleware, and writing end-to-end and unit tests.

Holger also has experience in academia, where they worked as a PHD Candidate at Northumbria University from October 2014 to September 2019. Their research focused on embodied approaches to the design of interactive sonification systems, and they developed and evaluated multiple prototypes using Python, Max/MSP, and SuperCollider. During this time, they also served as a Demonstrator, delivering demonstrations of sound design techniques and providing feedback on student work.

Earlier in their career, Holger worked as an Associate Software Developer at Turnitin from April 2014 to September 2014. Their responsibilities included supporting customers in integrating TurnItIn, GradeMark, and PeerMark into their learning management systems, fixing bugs, implementing new features, and analyzing server logs.

Holger Ballweg has an extensive education history. Holger started their educational journey in 2007 at Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Informatics and Musicology. Holger completed this program in 2011.

After their bachelor's degree, Holger continued their studies at the same institution. Holger enrolled in a Master of Arts program in Music Informatics, which lasted from 2011 to 2015. During this time, they gained a deeper understanding of the field.

In 2014, Holger decided to further enhance their academic qualifications by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at Northumbria University. Holger specialized in Computer Science and worked towards their PhD for five years, finally completing the program in 2019.

Through their academic journey, Holger Ballweg developed expertise in Music Informatics, Musicology, and Computer Science. Their educational background demonstrates their dedication and passion for interdisciplinary learning and research.
