CIO at HCLTech

Ajit Kumar is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of HCL Technologies—a role he was entrusted with recently. In this role, he is responsible to reimagine the business processes and the underlying technology to transform the company into a truly digital organization. This is a major initiative for the company, expected to make the organization more agile and capable of responding effectively to its strategic objectives.

Prior to taking on this role, Ajit was responsible for the delivery of application services for the company, which has transformed over the years to support the digital ambitions of the clients. During his tenure in this role, he built a more industry-aligned delivery organization and supported the transformation from a more traditional applications business to one that can effectively enable clients in their digital journey, encompassing building modern applications, leveraging advanced analytics, and utilizing the flexibility of cloud infrastructure. He was also responsible to diversify the company’s delivery landscape by leveraging capabilities in Tier 2 cities in India, as well as other low-cost locations in Asia and near-shore centers in Europe and Latam.

Before joining HCL, Ajit had played a number of roles at Accenture, including establishing its consulting business in India, as well as incubating and growing the offshore technology capability in India, the Philippines, China, and Eastern Europe. His stint at Accenture gave him deep insights about factors that drive business performance, including the effective leverage of technology. He was a Managing Director of global technology delivery for the Resources market unit covering oil and gas, chemicals, metals, mining, and utilities at the time of leaving in 2013.

Ajit has an engineering degree in Computer Science from College of Engineering, Chennai, and a postgraduate degree in Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Besides being a fitness enthusiast, he loves to follow sports and go on holidays exploring wildlife in his spare time.
