Bob Davis has been working since he was 10 years old, always saving to pay for the education he wanted to pull himself out of an inner-city neighborhood. He did everything from selling newspapers on street corners to driving a delivery van for a warehouse. After college he eventually found himself in executive sales and marketing roles at tech companies that produced early computers and computer-related components. He has now been working in and around technology for his entire professional career.
During the dawn of the Internet he was the Founder, President and CEO of Lycos, Inc. (LCOS), one of the world’s first search engines. Bob led Lycos from a startup with $2M in venture funding to become the most visited online destination in the world, one of the fastest IPO's in Nasdaq history (nine months), exceeding Wall Street estimates for 19 consecutive quarters until being acquired for $5.4B in 2000.
The Lycos experience was exhilarating but when Highland asked if he’d consider joining them for a career in a venture capital, he couldn’t resist. The opportunity to help passionate entrepreneurs build next generation companies of consequence was exciting and fulfilling.
