Matthew Smith

Matthew Smith serves as the Senior Executive Medical Director at Health Care Service Corporation since October 2018, providing strategic leadership in cost of care, medical policy, and clinical program delivery. Previous roles include Executive Medical Director and Medical Director, where Matthew led physician groups and innovative plan customization for large health plans. With a background in nephrology as a Physician at North Texas Kidney Disease Associates and Clinical Renal Associates, Matthew has extensive experience managing complex medical conditions. Prior to these roles, Matthew was the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer at Baylor Scott & White Health. Matthew completed residency and fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital after earning an MD from The University of Texas Medical Branch and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin, complemented by an MMM from Carnegie Mellon University and currently pursuing a Master of Science in Population Health from Thomas Jefferson University.
