Derya Sumer

Derya Sumer, Ph.D., P.E., is a seasoned professional in water resource management with extensive experience in both government and private sectors. Currently serving as the Northern California Water Supply Management Business Class Lead at HDR since September 2025, Derya previously worked with the Bureau of Reclamation from October 2018 to September 2025 in various roles, including Infrastructure Program Coordinator, Project Manager for the South of Delta Drought Plan, and Modeling Division Manager. Derya's expertise in water resources modeling and project management was further honed during a 12-year tenure at CH2M, where significant contributions included projects for the California Water Commission and the Bureau of Reclamation. Derya holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Hydrology and Water Resources from the University of Arizona, complemented by a Master of Science from the same institution and a Bachelor of Science from Middle East Technical University.
