Nestled in the scenic East Sussex countryside, Headstart School offers a unique and nurturing educational environment for children and young people with autism and complex needs. Established in 1999, the school operates across two rural sites, each featuring its own mini-farm, animal care areas, and horticultural spaces, creating a therapeutic and engaging setting that supports both academic and personal development.

Headstart School caters to pupils aged 5 to 16, with post-16 courses available up to age 21. The school is known for its integrated therapies, personalised learning programmes, and a strong emphasis on outdoor and vocational education. With a curriculum tailored to individual needs, pupils are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence, and life skills through a blend of academic study, hands-on experiences, and therapeutic support.

At the heart of Headstart’s ethos is a commitment to care, respect, and partnership with families. The school’s innovative approach, combined with its dedicated team of professionals, ensures that every pupil has the opportunity to thrive in a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment.
