Healx
Richard Smith is an experienced leader in data and engineering, currently serving as Associate Director at Healx since August 2015. At Healx, an AI-enabled biotechnology firm focused on rare disease treatments, Richard oversees the integration and utilization of diverse life science data to facilitate machine learning and scientific review processes. Prior to this role, Richard held positions including Associate Director - Data Content and Principal Software Engineer, contributing to drug repurposing initiatives through collaboration with patient groups. Richard founded Nowomics in 2013, a platform utilizing natural language processing for biology researchers, and was a lead developer at the University of Cambridge’s InterMine project. Additional experience includes software development for LIMS systems at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and Incyte. Richard holds a Master of Science degree in Digital Signal and Image Processing from Cranfield University and a Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from the University of Leeds.
