Wes Johnson

Chief Engineer, Corporate at Hecla Mining

Wes Johnson has a diverse work experience in the mining industry. Wes started their career at Newmont Corporation as an Underground Geotechnical Engineer, where they managed a team of engineers and technicians, conducted audits of underground workings, and designed excavation plans. Wes then moved on to become an Underground Mine Engineer at the Leeville Underground Mine, where they focused on short/mid-range planning, production monitoring, and ventilation system design. Wes then joined Freeport-McMoRan as a Geomechanical Engineer, overseeing the geomechanical engineering group and managing large development projects. After that, they worked at Lhoist North America, Inc as a Senior Mine Engineer, specializing in underground stone mining and lime production. Currently, Wes is employed at Hecla Mining Company, where they have held various positions including Senior Mine Engineer, Chief Planning Engineer, Technical Services Manager, and Chief Engineer, Corporate.

Wes Johnson pursued their education at Virginia Tech, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mining and Minerals Engineering from 1998 to 2003. Following that, they furthered their academic endeavors and earned a Master's degree in Mining Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2003-2004.
