Helanta Coffee was established in 2018 with a mission to elevate Sri Lankan specialty coffee onto the global stage. With deep community ties and years of industry experience, the brand stands as a leader in quality, sustainability, and innovation in Sri Lanka’s coffee sector.

The journey began in 2012 when founder Tharanga Muramudali launched Natural Coffee in Kandy alongside a Japanese investor. His early recognition of the global demand for specialty coffee laid the foundation for Helanta Coffee’s growth and commitment to international standards while uplifting local communities.

Helanta Coffee specializes in the production and supply of premium green bean and roasted coffee, catering to both local HORECA (hotels, restaurants, cafés) and international specialty markets. The brand follows a dual business model: supplying unbranded green beans and marketing roasted products under the Helanta Coffee name.

Cultivation takes place in high-altitude regions of Kothmale, between 1100–1500 meters, using fully organic, sustainable methods. Helanta focuses on micro-lot, single-origin coffee and employs diverse processing techniques—wet, honey, and natural—to craft rich flavor profiles that reflect Sri Lanka’s unique terroir.

The brand empowers over 3,000 smallholder farmers, offering training, distributing free plants, promoting fair pricing, and encouraging environmentally friendly practices. Community development is a core part of Helanta’s philosophy.

Helanta Coffee has earned global acclaim, including recognition at the World Barista Championship in Melbourne, the Great Taste Award in the UK, and various national honors for entrepreneurship and excellence.

Looking ahead, Helanta is leading the creation of Sri Lanka’s first coffee village—a visionary project combining coffee tourism, sustainable agriculture, and rural economic development.
