Hero Academy is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy operating in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.

Since 2016, our HeroKids program has provided free athletic and educational opportunities to more than 1,500 local children. Programs include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, Muay Thai, gymnastics, parkour, mentorship, and positive community support.

More than 95% of our funding is generated through our own retreat programs and social enterprises. We believe in leading by example and teaching the children in our programs that meaningful change begins with a vision, a plan, and the willingness to execute it.

Through our academy, international retreats, nonprofit initiatives, and corporate partnerships, we create experiences that combine wellness, leadership, service, and cultural connection.

Our programs include:

• Free youth programs through HeroKids
• Veteran and first responder initiatives through HACORP
• Corporate volunteer, wellness, and leadership experiences
• International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu retreats
• Community service and mentorship programs
• Food pantry and meal programs that provided more than 180,000 meals during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Disaster relief efforts, including shelter operations and emergency response support
• Annual school supply drives and holiday gift programs for local children
• First responder support and essential goods distribution during national emergencies

Each retreat directly supports our nonprofit mission, allowing visitors to experience Costa Rica while contributing to meaningful local impact.

Over the past decade, Hero Academy has welcomed thousands of students and visitors from around the world while building a sustainable model where travel, wellness, athletics, and community service work together to create lasting change.
