Marcus Thor began their career in 2006 as Captain on board S/Y Penelope in the Mediterranean Sea. In 2008, they became a Design Engineer marine technology at GVA Consultants AB. In 2011, they were a Project Manager at Epsilon Sweden and a Project Manager Region Support / Sub Project Manager RBS I&V Regulatory Approval at Ericsson. In 2012, they became the CEO, Projects Director, and Senior Project Manager at HEXICON AB. In 2015, they became the Project Director at Dounreay Tri Project. Finally, in 2019, they became the Project Director of a large scale floating wind farm development offshore Ulsan, South Korea at CoensHexicon and Shell joint development.

Marcus Thor has a diverse educational background. In 2012, they earned a Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. From 2006 to 2007, they earned an MSc in Engineering Physics and Naval Architecture from KTH Royal Institute of Technology. From 2005 to 2006, they attended Georgia Institute of Technology for Aerospace Engineering. Finally, from 2001 to 2004, they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Engineering Physics from The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University.
