Shana Opperman

Co-Founder & CEO at Pluto

Shana Opperman is the Co-Founder and CEO of Pluto, a social venture that leverages MIT Media Lab machine learning and media analytics R&D to provide newsrooms, nonprofit organizations and community influencers tools and programs to connect with their audiences on greater common ground.

Prior to Pluto, Shana was at Cortico as the Operations & Deployment lead from May 2017 to May 2018. There, they used state-of-the-art data science methods to map and analyze social systems, and design tools that enable new forms of human networks for positive change.

Before their work at Cortico, Shana was a Graduate Researcher at the MIT Media Lab Social Machines Group from May 2017 to February 2018. There, they developed new ways to solve marketing and advertising problems through Google products and open-web technologies.

From February 2013 to March 2016, Shana was a Digital Producer at Google's Art Copy & Code Incubator (NY + Mountain View). Shana was part of a small, fast-paced innovation program that bridges creative technologists, designers, producers, marketers, product managers and software engineers to re-imagine advertising.

Shana Opperman has a Masters in Software Engineering and Integrated Design from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a MBA from the same school. Shana also has a Bachelor's degree in Advertising with a Business Minor from The University of Texas at Austin. Shana began their college education at Cornell University in 2006 but transferred to The Chinese University of Hong Kong to study International Advertising.
