Don Carkner has extensive work experience in the technology industry. Don is currently the VP of Operations at High Q Technologies, a position they have held since March 2016. Prior to that, they worked as an Operations Advisor at Quantum Valley Investments starting in November 2015. From June 2011 to September 2015, they served as the Vice President of Components Development at BlackBerry.
Before their tenure at BlackBerry, Carkner held the position of Chair of the Display Manufacturing Committee at the Society for Information Display from September 2008 to June 2012. Don also worked as a Principal Technologist at CH2M HILL from October 2008 to June 2011, focusing on developing relationships with technology clients in high-tech manufacturing industries.
Carkner has also held various positions at iFire Technology Ltd., starting as the VP of Product Planning in September 1998 and continuing until 2008. Prior to that, they worked as an Applications and Research Engineer at The Westaim Corporation from November 1992 to September 1998, where they managed thin films process development.
Earlier in their career, Carkner worked as a Biomechanics Research Engineer at Toronto General Hospital from January 1988 to August 1989. Don also completed co-op positions as a Communication Research Engineer at the Department of National Defense, Research Establishment Ottawa in 1987, and as a Navigation Research Engineer at Transport Canada Telecommunications and Electronic Systems Development Lab in 1986.
Don Carkner pursued their higher education starting in 1985 at the University of Waterloo, where they completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Systems Design in 1990. Following this, they enrolled at McMaster University from 1990 to 1992 to obtain their Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Materials Science/Engineering Physics.
