Hinterlands Consultancy is a specialist digital agency focused on the design and development of advanced & enterprise online communities.

Since 1997, we’ve partnered with organisations across Australia, APAC, and the US to build serious communities that go beyond standard, out-of-the-box implementations. Our work centres on how communities actually function, as places where people share knowledge, support each other, and contribute meaningfully.

We design and develop communities alongside the content, knowledge, and self-service systems that make them sustainable. By bringing experience design, engineering, and integration together, we help organisations reduce support effort, improve confidence, and turn community into a trusted, long-term asset.

Our work often includes integrating communities with knowledge bases, online help and support environments, CRM systems, and analytics. Where it adds value, we apply AI-assisted interfaces and automation to improve findability, accuracy, and scale, always in service of human outcomes, not at the expense of them.

We work with established community platforms including Higher Logic, Vanilla, Khoros, Gainsight, Discourse, Bettermode, and BuddyBoss, helping organisations extend and adapt these technologies to meet complex requirements.

At Hinterlands, we believe communities are deeply human systems and when designed well, they become powerful sources of insight, trust, and organisational intelligence. Our role is to help organisations build communities that last, learn, and grow with the people who use them.
